It's not clutch or brake fluid the levels are too high , it's not coolant or screenwash like I said its wet around the drivers side drive shaft and steering rack its high up near the drive shaft so I don't know if it's squirting up from the rack or coming out of the drive shaft area/ gearbox I've not had any experience with manual gearbox oil so I'm not sure . It's defo some kind of oil

How hot is hot? Yes all discs will become warm or even hot if used a lot, but being too hot to touch is too vague an indication of temperature to say whether something is wrong. However you said you can smell the brakes so I suggest that indicates excessive rubbing.

rotis23 started following A4 B7 2006 convertible roof stuck open keytool not working
-
Hi all, A4 B7 2006 2.0TDI convertible So, I've had this one for a few years now and the roof has always been a bit temperamental (as they are) - so I'm used to occasionally using the manual keytool to open or close when required. However, - Been using the auto roof ok for last few weeks since the weather has improved - no problems - Decided to wash it for first time in a very long while - with roof up and then with roof down - no idea if this has any relevance - no water with roof down - Roof would then not go up so tried to use manual release keytool but didn't work - The keytool is not releasing the convertible top (after being closed down) - it feels blocked or jammed - the key not locating fully and there is some play one the red part of the tool is tightened - although there is a bit of play. I know how this works as have used it many times. So presumably either a mechanical jam or a controller/sensor issue. So - with keytool engaged the two latches are not releasing. The only post I have seen related to this for a B7 is where the rear windows were not down fully - and this not allowing the manual keytool to be used. Any ideas on what to do next. The emergency aint working. Guess I'm lucky the weather is ok for next couple days 😕 Thanks in advance. rotis23

All work done by Audi dealers will have been recorded on a central database, so even if you bought the car from one garage and serviced it at another any modification should have been recorded. Logically then, either this special chip does not exist and the garage is mistaken, or the chip does exist and has been fitted by a non Audi garage.

Brake fluid? Clutch fluid? Coolant? Screenwash fluid?
-
I would have thought that discs would have some heat after driving , this is normal brake friction .

Michael Lloyd started following Performance Enhancing Chip?
-
I have had my etron from new and had an issue with a radiator. Audi advised me that m warranty was null and void as their computer is telling them that I had a performance enhancing chip fitted and now it has been de-activated. The car has only ever been in an Audi Garage and I have no idea why they are telling me this is the case. I just wondered if anyone else has had any experience of it. Thanks,
-
Thanks for the reply .Yeah we changed them on both and even tried linking out . We put the scanner on with no results unfortunately 🥴

Did you have the sensors changed on the rear when replacing the pads? I would imagine a diagnostic will be able to point you in the direction of which sensor is throwing the code.

Hi Guys , I have a 2014 a5 2.0tdi sline FWD , recently I noticed some staining where the car had been parked just small pools every now and again. It is some kind of oil i thought it was diesel at first because it was quite clear but its defo not diesel , i then thought steering rack but I've not lost any fluid, I've took the rear tray off the bottom this was soaking as was the linkage on the steering rack suggesting something higher up it look like it may be coming from the driveshaft area I've read somewhere there may be an oil seal is this accurate and where can I get one asap? Drivers side rhd. Any thoughts appreciated

With mine, I supplied all parts, Audi specialists charged £200 to fit

you can usually tell by looking at arb bushes if they have deteriorated. Fairly simple job to swap out compared to top mounts which are more involved. top mounts, you cant tell for certain until you remove them from the car (unless they’re really bad) perhaps, your mechanic can advise further
-
Tbf one the mechanics reckons it is the top mount as, but it takes a while to do 🤔
-
No I’m not sure. But it was ok for 12 months after changing. . Dampers were originals so needed changing anyway
-
I am not familiar with the A6 so I can not say whether hot discs are normal, but I doubt it. As for the deformed tyre, who can say what the cause was after five months of use? It might have been poorly made or it might the result of operating conditions. It rarely pays to buy cheap tyres is all I'll add.
-
Thanks for coming back on this Mike. It may well be worth having a search on here about issues with panoramic sunroofs. Can leak under under ‘normal’ use, and it would be reasonable to expect a higher potential for body flexing if using it for towing. Kind regards, Gareth.

No both discs hot to touch, so don't think that's the problem , when i took off the wheel and rolled the wheel along flat surface you could see the wheel wobble as it rolled , but the question is what caused the tire to lose shape that much , tie rod ? Or just a poor quality tire ? I notice there is a slight clicking when turning while driving , which i thought was a cv joint that is due to be changed , so might not be the cv after.
-
Wasn't aware of that with original tyres, thank you.
-
Thanks A, So we beg to differ on the anticipated rate of tread wear . Note:- it is usual for originally fitted tyres to last longer than subsequent sets of the same brand, but.. In terms of recommendations for future sets, I think the forum has given you some advice to help you select a brand for your next set. Having said that, could you now do us a kindness and amend your profile to at least include your full first name? Kind regards, Gareth.

Thanks for the update. The spare wheel has solved the noise, but can not explain the hot disc. Is the opposite side just as hot?

Aidenj started following Q5 Brake pad wear indicator fault
-
Good morning 🙂 Hopefully someone could offer some help regarding my issue regarding the brake wear indicator warning light . It started last year intermittent then on at all times . I got the front pads and sensor changed light went off at least for a while to then return a few months later. At this point I went back and bit the bullet to get the rear pads changed to no avail my mechanic suspects a break in the cable . He is an old school mechanic so freely admitted wiring isn't his strong point . My father in law is pretty decent and we had a go checking what we could . Has anyone had this issue before and if so what did you find . Thanks in advance Jamie
