jjirvine started following Space saver tyre won’t fit due to polystyrene insert

Hi. I’ve just bought a pre registered A3 Black edition (74 plate). There is a compressor and tyre puncture kit in the boot in a polystyrene holder on the bottom right hand side of the boot. I kept my previous A3’s space saver wheel (2018 plate) and it doesn’t fit because of the polystyrene foam insert. Is there an easy way to get this insert out as the tyre should fit if it was moved. There seems to be a plastic button like thing holding it to the boot but don’t want to wreck it if there’s a way of removing it without damage. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙏

Just back from garage , defo wheel bearing not sure if right or left , can't hear it spinning wheels by hand , but right was done last year so I think its the left same side as cv joint was replaced on . Being done in 3 weeks , said its safe out to drive until then no play in wheels.

It would appear that the poster is a 2 year subscriber, and it seems he cannot be warned for posting and never returning! Unless I have it wrong - let’s hope I have. So if anyone wants to adopt the same tactics then paying seems to be the way out of responding to requested advice! Correct?? Regards, Gareth.

Had the same issue. Just give the polystyrene holder a firm pull and it will come out.

Ha ha thanks that sounds very encouraging!

Be sure John, something else will crop up to occupy a worrying mind!

Ya there is definitely a noise there while driving , faint but there. Think its my OCD telling me its the worst thing ever ,like differential or transmission humming , when it could be just a wheel bearing on the way out . Its a case of wait and see if suppose.
-
Thanks Jon, If it were mine, I would now put in in the ‘don’t worry about it box’ pending the car getting looked at by the garage. No disrespect, but you appear to be dealing with this in a patient and medical specialist basis, whereby you are trying to diagnose something you are about to pay others to diagnose for you. Regards, Gareth.

Even though you're out of the 30 days you're still covered under the consumer law. If a fault occurs with a car or item in the first 6 months of purchase it is assumed the fault was there from when it was purchased. My brother is going through this now and getting his car fixed free of charge. It needed an abs pump (£3k bill!).

Welcome to the forum you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch 🙂 looks a nice Audi 🙂

Outside of 30 days still under warranty (not a great one might I add) £40ph labour and upto £350 per claim

I think it might be slightly louder when steering right , so im thinking left hand bearing , only very slightly louder , to be honest if the radio is on you'd hardly hear it , so im thinking its only getting rough rather than gone . Its booked in for a service in 3 weeks so im hoping it should last until then . At least now I know its not the tyres , the tyre shop gave the 2 that were on the car a good check and confirmed that the tyres weren't the problem, so my garage wants to check it tomorrow to confirm but won't be able to do the job until 3 weeks time . To be honest I've had bearings in the past that would drown out the radio . The noise stays while coasting so it shouldn't be a gearbox bearing as its there with no load and the gearbox is acting very normal , so im thinking for sure wheel bearing .
-
Welcome Jon and thanks for joining. Regards, Gareth.
-
If you think it’s an off side wheel bearing, then do a left hand turn and see if the noise becomes louder. N/s bearing suspected - take a right hand turn and see if the noise gets louder.

all seems to point to steering angle sensor but could this be set off by a faulty wheel sensor??....i can hear a slight grating as i drive between houses....drivers side not sure front of back??.....my airbag light doesnt seem to want to go out ..it goes out for a second when my mate tried turning it off with his magic machine ....i dont wanna buy a steering sensor if i dont need one but i might have to

so turns out the starter motor wire was fried because (and in the best way i can explain)- the previous owners added the wrong starter motor that was generating too much power/ voltage which then led to the cable becomming coroded.

Hi all. Just a quick one to say thank you for accepting me into the club. I’ve had my 2013 A3 TDi for a couple of years now and have enjoyed (almost) every minute of it. It’s the longest I’ve ever kept a car and will only sell it to get another Audi. I’m a mechanic so I do all my own work and most of the jobs are pretty straight forward. Even the EGR valve wasn’t too bad!! Anyway, here’s my ride, hope to see some of you at some events throughout the summer.

Heated Seats. Installation of S line Heated Seats
Steve Q replied to papa yankee's topic in Audi A3 (8V) Forum
Unfortunately you'll find you'll need the heated seats Wiring harness. Not only that you might find the airbag connector might be different. And you can't just cut off the old connector and solder on a different one as this will throw the airbag warning lights. As such the best way is to remove the airbag from your current seats and put them in the new seats if that makes sense. -
Have the engine mounts and gearbox mounts been checked? As the movement could cause noise. Could it be something to do with liquid sloshing when I get loads and it throwing off the sensors? For example when I had an issue with my A6 washer bottle leaking it wouldn't always tell me it was low unless the washer fluid moved away from the sensor if that makes sense.

If S line heated seats are installed in an SE model,is it possible to use the heated seats . Is the wiring already installed. I have a spare panel with the press switches. 2016 SE Sportback. Thanks
