  2. For a little while some of the TFSI engines were notorious for extremely high oil consumption. As far as I recall they required re-designed piston rings from Audi to solve the problem. If yours is one of those affected engines then nothing you can do by way of additives or treatments will help. Doubtless that is why the previous owner sold the car. Sorry, but I believe you have bought a lemon.
  3. Hmm. I had the rear shocks and coils replaced a few weeks ago. Much better at the rear, but not that much better at the front. I've played with tyre pressures, lowering them to a smoother ride, but that made little difference to the body roll at the front. Could it be a bad sway bar or something? Thanks, Alex
  4. 2009 Audi A3 Convertible 1.8 tfsi Sport with 125,000 miles. I recently bought this on a summertime whim knowing it had high oil consumption but it's even worse than the seller claimed. It's only about 200 miles per litre. The car runs beautifully and seems to be about as powerful as it should be. Fuel consumption about 38 mpg. It doesn't leak, doesn't smell and I've not seen any smoke even though I've driven mostly with it open so I'm at a total loss about where the oil goes to! I've looked at dozens of posts and videos on the net and it seems to be an incredibly common occurrence with all sorts of car engines and, for the Audi TFSI engine, it's most likely either a duff PCV or gummed up oil control rings. Receipts show the seller had spent a lot the last few years on repairing leaking seals and, in particular had the 'oil breather valve' replaced by a new one at enormous cost a year ago. PCV When I take off the oil filler cap with engine idling there's no blowout of fumes and the engine pitch changes very slightly. I THINK this means the PCV is OK but if anyone can suggest a better test other than trial and error replacement I'd like to know. Oil control rings Otherwise I'd appreciate any advice out there about oil treatments. I've just learnt about Forte Oil Fortifier which you just top up with for about £15. It's the simplest and cheapest but does it really do anything? At present I'm planning to carry out a long cylinder soak for 2-3 days using Berryman B12 - I've ordered two x 440 ml containers intending really to only use one. I'll follow this with an oil/filter change using Liqui Moly Proline engine flush and refilling with Mannol Elite 5-40 high ester oil. Any suggestions, advice and comments on this plan would be very gratefully received! BTW I recently posted about my passenger door lock problem and this is now all sorted thanks partly to the help from this forum.
  5. My 2008 3.0 q7 tdi has had issues not warming up. The garage replaced thermostat water pump and a one way valve pipe. They said it gets to temp now but as soon as driving it drops to cold again. They said they cant fix it so i need to collect car and take elsewhere. Is this something anyone has heard of or knows how to fix as i need a working car and they clearly dont want to do anymore for me
  6. It's the same problem that you remember from the old days from your description: pinking or pre-ignition. It's the result of too weak a fuel mixture or a spark that's too far advanced or fuel of too low an octane rating. If you are using the right grade of fuel there is a problem with the engine that needs diagnosis.
  7. A worn prop shaft bearing should be easy enough to detect by any mechanic, so it does seem more likely to be the gearbox.
  8. It's a common problem on Audis, and probably other brands for all I know, that the Adblue crystallises in its tank, pump, and lines leading to the lot having to be renewed.
  9. Today
  10. Thanks for the confirmation.
  11. Hello. I have V6 Tdi s tronic. When I excelrate there is a tinny rattling sound. It reminds of the old days when thr air file mixture was wrong for a petrol car. Please can you give me any ideas why it would be doing this
  12. It's actually was serviced a week ago, and yes 2.0 tdi, thanks
  13. Afternoon all just recently purchased a 2021 black edition a6 I am trying to add my audi to it got so far but now it's asking for the vehicle code any ideas how to obtain this thanks.
  14. Hi All, I've accidentally broke the Knob on my Mirror switch. On looking on the web to replace it, I can't find the one that's needed for my model. Most are universal, but the shape of the actual plastic outer part that i'm needing isn't rectangular. Please see pic. any help appreciated 🙂 UK based
  15. Bought at 80k sold at 140 odd k. Still on original clutch, exhaust, turbo etc. had replaced wings due to corrosion they rust from inside out. Rear arches can rust but mine were perfect due to me keeping on top of mud/ silt from building up. Chasis also rot free due to keeping on top of it with regular cleaning. I’d replaced dampers and wishbones during my ownership but rear arms bushes were getting tired no major defects just got bored with it and fancied a change. the turbo was always a bit winey but never got worse and always a bit of smoke on first start up, again this never got any worse and is caused by oil leaking past the piston rings after a long stand. Another common issue. in the nine years I had the car as said, never got any worse. Couple of pics from the advert when I sold it…
  16. Hi, I meant to reply to this ages ago but forgot. The instructions don’t help because it’s the exterior metal trim I need to replace not the interior, any other ideas ?
  17. Changed appropriate O2 sensor, warning light has reappeared, any ideas????
  18. A4N1 903 028 B is the part fitted to mine. From my understanding, the N1 is updated from N0. I think the B at the end might be a refurbished part?
  19. Ok thanks for that just out of interest how many miles did it last u if u can remember and what was the problem for it giving up
  20. Hi Kari, do you know the part number of the new replacement upgraded Starter / Generator as I will swap the spare I have in on my garage shelf for the upgrade?
  21. Hi all, new to the forum. I am looking for some help on locating the fuse for the air suspension pump on my Audi, 2008 2.7, A6, allroad, diesel, no power going to the air ride pump, thanks in advance. Aileen
  22. Paid for a basic Autotrader history check at the time which showed no issues. I've just done a Car Vertical one too though and seems to check out, no odometer or damage history. My indie did say that there are some crash codes missing, so he thinks it's had a knock in the past. Thanks, I'd come across VAG technic. Seems to be lots of debate online about them in the forums but I spoke to the guy on the phone and he seemed reasonable, so maybe will try there next. Thanks very much for your help!
  23. Any recommendations to get this done by a specialist in the North London area?
  24. No choice i guess but to wait for them to figure out the issue to keep the warranty They claim a balloon like thing is the issue within the adblue tank, but they can't replace the balloon like item and need to replace the whole adblue tank
  25. That's unfortunate. Did you verify the mileage with a additional check through Car Vertical or such like. That might be worth doing, just to see if there's been accident damage in the past. Seems unusual for prop shaft bearing to go at just 60k, unless this car has been subjected to some abuse. There's also VAG Technic - they are based in Dudley and know Audi inside out, so you could get second opinion there before you start stripping out gearboxes.
  26. Might be leaking rocker cover. Assume 2.0TDI? Check the rubber seal on the oil filler cap. Clean up the oil misting with brake cleaner and watch for any further signs. Hasn't been serviced recently - as in oil spill on refilling?
