Electronic Box

Featured Replies

Hi there

I've the very happy owner of a new A6 Avant so am selling my 2008 A4 Convertible. It would be a good buy for someone as I replaced the cambelt last year and sorted out a couple of engine oil leaks.

I get it washed and valeted, put the hood down for the first time in 2018 to take photos for autotrader. Needless to say, the hood won't go back up. I take it to my local soft top specialist who are great - all the motor for the hood is working fine. The problem apparently is the electronic box which controls the hood and numerous other things (all of which seem to be working). Apparently it's water damaged.

Apparently, I have to go to Audi and get them to replace this and re-programme it. It sounds like it will cost a fortune.

Given that I was hoping to sell the car for £3,500, has anyone got any advice? I don't want to see anyone a pup but obviously don't want to spend a fortune on a car I'm getting rid of. It's got 83k on the clock by the way.

Thanks very much everyone

Russell

Hello Russell,

Very sorry to hear of your problem. I'm not sure I am going to be of much help to you, but could others advise whether what you are looking for is the BCU ( body control unit). I could be way off the mark, but it's possible that is what they were referring to, although I would have expected other circuits to be affected.

It might be worth you having an independent to look this over and give you more information on what you actually need to look for, and then try to source a second hand one and hopefully get it programmed to your car.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth

Thanks very much for this. Certainly, the convertible place I went to were surprised that other circuits weren't affected so it might well be the BCU.

Will try to follow your advice, anyone know a good independent in the Hornchurch/Romford area?

Thanks everyone

Russell

I have managed to source a second hand ECU but can't find anyone to fit in Romford/Essex/East London area.

If you know someone, please let me know.

Many thanks

Russell
