Sat Nav Disc and upgrade

Evening all.
I have just bought an A8 3.0 tdi quattro, D3 2005 not facelift model, this afternoon.
Obviously I am still trying to work out all of the settings etc on the MMI.

However when I select Navigation, the screen says insert Disc.
I have checked there is a disc in the reader but it is not an original, just a downloaded copy.
My question is; can I upgrade without the original disc, and use a later version?
Have looked on e-bay but don't really know what I should be looking for.
Also don't have a multi-media reader, are these a simple plug and play?

I realise that these are pretty lame questions, but am totally new to the A8.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi Jake, the a8 is a lovely car but I can't really advise on discs from eBay as they can be fit or miss. Obviously if you go to Audi they'll charge you approx £300 for a new disc. It might be worth putting the original audi disc in to check that the system is working.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply Steve Q.
Only problem, the disc I have isn't an original, the one I have is a copy. But when I select NAV the screen asks me to insert disc.
I have cleaned the disc but it does have some scratches on.
Am speaking to uknavigation on eBay, hopefully can get a disc for around £7.00.
Just to see if the DVD unit is working ok.

Ah, got ya! I thought you had a update copy and the original. It might be worth buying a genuine audi out of date one from 2005/2006 to see if the Sat nav works. I can't imagine the old discs are too expensive.

Cheers

Thanks for the replies.
I have spoken to uknavigation on E-bay.
After sending a photo of the 'version page' they said they have the correct disc for me.
Only cost £7.99 and if it doesn't work I can get a refund :-)

I did try and find an original disc, but not wanting to spend £65 on something that may not work.
Hopefully this new disc will sort my problem out, will keep you informed.
