A5 TFSi - jerky gear changes

I am seeking advice.  If this topic has been discussed, please direct me to the appropriate thread.

I bought my A5 nearly 2 years ago.  It was in excellent condition except for one thing, which I have tolerated.  Occasionally, and I cannot find any pattern to the occasions, it will jolt violently as I stop.  This does not happen every time, so I know it is not my driving technique, which I guess is what you might think.  I have tried to see if it occurs when on the flat, upslope, down slope, stop-start conditions or after a long run.  I can find no pattern.  I appears to be random.

Anyway, I have tolerated that until now.  Now, I am finding that gear changes, when in either normal Automatic or Sports mode are becoming jerky.  More worryingly, there can be a tiny delay in accelerating away from a standstill - no fun when you are entering a busy roundabout.

Has anyone experienced this and can they give me a clue as to what the issue is?  I have an inherent distrust of garages who like to try all sorts of experiments at my expense before finally finding the solution.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I would start with this. Multitronic gearbox needs to be services every 38k miles

Thanks Niedzial.  Apols for the late response.  I have been living with the fault for a while to see if I could find a pattern.  No luck so far.   Your advice is much appreciated.
I'm taking the car to a gearbox specialist tomorrow.  There are various options suggested:

  1. Transmission fluid
  2. Software update
  3. New & expensive Mechatronic system.

Wish me luck!

hey Carol, good luck with that & thanks; your enquiry has got me off my backside to do something about my own similarly misbehaving gearbox which I also have ingnored for too long.
