2006 A4 Multitronic Gearknob Button stays in when ‘Park’ selected

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, hope someone can assist.

I have a 2006 A4 Avant that has developed a fault where I am unable to fully select ‘Park' resulting in the key stuck in the ignition. I am able to select ‘Drive’ and the car starts and runs perfectly, the only issue being that when I try to select ‘Park’ it will not fully engage and the selector button will not release. I have removed the selector knob and the  selector guide but cannot see any obvious damage and the selector button itself is functioning correctly. I assume there is a physical restriction to the selectors ability to fully engage ‘Park”, as opposed to an electrical one, but I have no idea what that could be! The car does actually go into ‘Park’, its the selector that appears to be the problem!
Does anyone have knowledge as to how the selector operates and what mechanisms are in place that influence the function of selecting ‘Park’? Cheers.
