A4 1.9 tdi (2000) stiff gear change

Featured Replies

Hi all I've just bought a audi a4 tdi (2000 w) I've had it about 2 weeks and all is well until it's driven about 20 miles the gear changes become really difficult you have to yank it out of gear and really push it into the next yet cold it's as smooth as it should be any suggestions where to start??

Simple and basic things first Danny,

Check the gearbox oil level, and even consider changing it, to ensure the grade is correct.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Right gearbox oil definitely the culprit it was creamy like it was mixed with water but it's a air cooled Manuel transmission anyone know how the oil has become so contaminated?? Even my mechanic was stumped said he's never seen it in a Manuel with no water cooling??
