Steering angle sensor

Featured Replies

Hi

Car is a 2009 A4 (B8) 2l TDi saloon with manual gearbox

My ESP light has started remain on, so I took it to a friend who has a small garage and he connected his diagnostic tool which came back with steering angle sensor fault. Which would appear to be a know and common problem?

Having done a quick web search the part looks to be a 8*0953568* with a number of prefix and suffix variants, though based on the Vin No the indications are that is should be a 8K0953568G, though there also appears to be a later M suffix version? Need to remove the steering wheel to check what is actually fitted.

Can anybody enlighten as to what the actual fault problem relates to as there is somebody on e-bay who does a software upgrade, you send sensor and he downloads new software and sends it back, which is supposed to correct the fault due to the original sensor software setting becoming corrupted. Has anybody used this service?

Alternatively there are a number a used sensors available with varying prices but also with different prefix and suffix lettering.

Can anybody advise if you can simply just change the sensor or does it then require calibrating and coding?

Thanks

Is there anybody who can offer some advise on the steering angle sensor replacement?

Definitely worth a shot with the eBay option. Check the feedback though. The steering wheel is easy to remove but remember to disconnect the battery and leave it disconnected for at least 30 mins before removing it.

Thanks for the reply. Aware that you need to disconnect the negative lead before doing any work on the electrics. But why do you recommend disconnecting some 30 mins before removal?

Will there be any issues reconnecting the battery after its been disconnected on the B8 versions, ie thing not working or require re-coding?
