MMI PROBLEMS

Featured Replies

Evening!

I'm new to the forum. I'm posting due to an error occurring with my Q5. I've owned it now for roughly 20 months and all has been fine and have enjoyed it. Wednesday morning I got in my car and realised two lights on the MMI control were lit (two silver buttons next to the job wheel on the right hand side)solid red before I started the car. I started it up and went to hit media and the function didn't work long behold I pressed all buttons and none of them worked. My steering wheel controls are fine to operate it but it just seems unusual. I've tried doing a reset pressing the 3 button function but that hasn't worked and I've pulled the head unit out and unplugged it but that hasn't done anything. It's a 2014 Q5 3G multimedia off top of my head. The buttons aren't sticking they all move freely just seems out of the blue for it to act up. It's only done 40k.

I've added two pictures of the buttons one during the day one on a night (with my headlights on so the interior lights should be lit)

I've spoken to an auto electrician and he's coming out next week but would like to try and resolve it with him coming out, any help/info would be appreciated.

2 lights on at the same time shouldn't happen.

Can you still select and navigate to the settings menu using the steering wheel controls? If so, you can try a factory reset from there.

Otherwise, it could be that the switch is knackered or there is something stuck under it.

You could try removing it - Google "remove audi mmi joystick" for a few videos and other discussions.

Thank you for the response.

Yeah the steering wheel controls are fine I didn't realise you could get to the menu from there I'll give it a go.

And that's what I'm thinking if it's knackered I'll Google the MMI removal too I'll buy a new panel if needs be.

Cheers appreciate that 👍

I think you can access the menus from the steering wheel - but it's worth a try 👍

Edit: looks like someone else has the same issue

I managed to fix the problem.

I've just lifted up the housing disconnected it and plugged it back in. Thought try something first and it worked fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.
