2019 Audi A3 Stronic Clutch Juddering

Ive got a 2019 Stronic A3 (Petrol)

It judders from 1st to 2nd when starting off stationary. Took me 2 visits to audi for them to accept there is a problem and have stated it needs a new clutch which is not covered under warranty but they will offer a goodwill and Im only liable to pay for labor costs (capped).

The car was under manufacture warranty when initially brought to audi and is now under extended warranty. 

Should I push and attempt to get this covered under warranty ?

Anyone else experience the same on a 19' A3?

A clutch is one of those items that are expected to wear, just like brake pads and tyres, so it is hardly surprising it is not covered by warranty. Whether yours should have worn out in less than three years is debateable, it depends how hard it has been driven (which you have not mentioned) and how many miles it has covered (which again you have not mentioned). Without more information I am not prepared to take sides on the matter.

My Bad, 

 

Car had 17k miles when i bought the car. Issue was first noticed at 21k miles and brought to the dealer. Now its on 25k miles. I personally have not driven the car hard, Always in comfort mode

Hello Kai,

Many thanks for being in touch with the forum, and now that we have more valuable information,  it’s justifiable that the forum has sympathy with your plight. 
Obviously there is isn’t any doubt that the car is under warranty, and it understood that the issue was indeed brought to the dealer/manufacturer’s  attention while still under the manufacturer’s warranty, which proceeded your extended warranty. 
It is indeed justifiable to believe that a clutch should last longer than 25k miles, and certainly 21K when first noticed - with the caveat, as Cliff points out - you don’t have any experience of how the car was driven in the 17k miles before you owned it. 
The hard fact to swallow is that clutches are not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty since they are rightly claimed to be wearing parts. I guess you would need to prove that the issue in your case, is not one of wear, but premature failure of a critical component - impossible without stripping down, and even more difficult to prove (in caps) at that time. 
Yes, you could challenge the warranty, but that can be costly in terms of specialist advice/inspection reports, appearances at court - all of which adds up and will certainly be time consuming in vehicle-off-the-road time.

You don’t share with us, the (subsidised) costings which the Audi dealer has agreed, but it might be worth you considering that VAG clutch component prices to buy, are very high, so the ‘they pay for parts, you pay for labour’ may be a better compromise that the vice versa situation.

OK, pessimistic overall view, but this may be the best deal you are going to get, without engaging in protracted battle, but of course, it’s up to you to decide whether you wish to compromise  ,or put up a reasonable fight.

Now we know the car has done only 25000 miles I would not expect the clutch to have worn out in that distance with normal driving. However it must be admitted that its treatment in the first 17000 miles is unknown, so for that reason I reckon the chances of getting a free replacement under guarantee are negligible, unless that guarantee specifically includes the clutch. Like Gareth I suggest accepting the Audi offer of compromise whereby you only pay for labour.
