A4 B9 recirculation flap motor issue

Featured Replies

Got an issue with the recirculation flap motor which seems to have failed. Does anyone have a link to the manual for the locations in the b9? Possibly behind the glove box.

For future reference for others the air conditioning works when max AC is on but fails when moved to come through front vents. Where it can be heard circulating behind the dash.

This could help. I'd say it's in exactly the same place as the attached manual extract

Hi, I’ve got the exact same issue, did you get this sorted? Where was the motor located please?

@wanleg

They are under your glovebox. The recirculation flap motor (2) is on the left, the fresh air flap motor (3) is at the back; you can see some arms connected to this one.

In my case, at least, it was (2). After removing the cover under the glovebox, the motor is fastened with 3x torx screws.

You will however need someone with VCDS to run the basic settings after fitting the new motor.

Unfortunately, the distance from Hartlepool to me probably doesn't make it very economical for my help with this 🙂

Mine is the recirculating mirror, I’m sure of it.

 Many thanks for the info.

Hello, jdragon I have an Audi A4 b9 2018 and cold air is blowing in at the driver's feet and behind the central grille. otherwise, warm bags on all the flaps. I did the vcds diagnosis and I don't have any error on the climate control, I can't figure out which engine is faulty

That's odd. Have you ran 'basic settings'?

I haven’t got mine sorted yet…garage told me it was a big job and half the dashboard needs to come out. Has anyone fixed this themselves? Is it a nightmare job?

The garage said the same for me. It's a huge job, and they don't guarantee it will be fixed. I read on some other forums that replacing the Heater core matrix and flushing the coolant fixes the issue, so I am going to do it myself, as changing the heater core seems not too big of a job in the next 2-4 weeks.

Hi, I never bothered when I found it how much of the dash had to come out.

I just use the max windscreen button for the few times a year the flap motor gets it wrong, always seems to be on the warmest days.

I think the same thing has happened on my Audi A4 b9 2017. It looks easy enough to replace but not sure if it's recirculation or fresh air control motor.

I need to find someone with VDCS who can do it for me, don't suppose you're near Northampton way by any chance?

Do you know the part number?

Update: ordered the part £208 and found garage who has VDCS and they programmed the new motor module, just in time for the hot weather! Ice cold AC in all directions 👍🏽

Did you fit the the part yourself?

 If so, was it easy?

Not sure if YouTube link works above but this will help, it's literally under the glovebox behind the pollen filter towards left, like three screws and pull the connector and replace. I did that myself and just got the garage to program it like in the YouTube video.

Can you tell where you ordered the part from , that is a good price - if you could call £209 good for such a small part !

I need to replace too

LLL Parts are showing it cheaper at £176. Still criminal price for what it is. https://www.lllparts.co.uk/product/4m0820511a/servomotor-4m0820511a

Thanks Spartacus 68 but not sure I can trust service or quality from lllparts going by many reviews .

got quoted £285 by Audi Glasgow just for the part !

I am sure there must be cheaper

I’ve seen non-genuine ones on EBay (I think) for about £70. Not sure how they compare to the genuine part.

The pictures I posted previously in the thread, I got mine from eBay - seller was audisytner.

Note you will need VDCS software though to program it like in the YouTube video.
