Multiple Fault Codes Common Ground issue

Hey all,

First post here...so I have a 2008 (07build) 2.0 TDI Avant. The other day my wife comes home telling me shes been honked and even flagged by the cops...No brake lights.

So left brake light went out first, left blinker started going 2 x speed, then right brake like went out, she said the dash lit up. So i pop on the obdeleven run a scan and get the following:

Open circuit short circuit to B+ on

- Left side marker lamp

- Left back-up light bulb

- Left brake light tail lamp bulb

- Right brake light tail lamp bulb

In addition I also got:

- Output speed sensor circuit (P0722) and transmission output speed

- Intake flap motor short circuit to ground (P3101)

- Read DTC memory transmission CM (P1652)

- Read DTC memory of A/C control module (P1641)

- Steering angle sensor voltage (01826)

- Signal for duration of ingnition (01206)

Apologies I didn't grab all the individual codes..

Any thoughts on where to start looking, is it a control module or an open common ground throwing everything haywire.

I have cleared these codes and re-scanned multiple times with the Steering angle sensor voltage (01826) being the only one to reoccur each scan.

Appreciate anyones thoughts or similar experiences, I should also mention it has been raining alot here in Sydney.

Hello Jason,

Thanks for joining and posting your plea.

’…open common ground issue..’? Think I know what you mean, but not absolutely certain, but…..

Carefully peel back the flexible harness covering from the harness that runs from the body section to the boot, and examine the cables. You might find broken wires in there due to years of flexing by opening/closing the boot.

Let us know what you find.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth,

When I said open common ground, I was suspecting that everything sharing one of the grounding points may be throwing faults if that ground has an issue.

Where abouts is this harness located that you are referring to, I have the glove box out and can see multiple connection points here, is this the spot?

Cheers for the help,

Jason
