V6 Timing Chain

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My Q5 3.0 V6 has 180k on it now. Looking at replacing the timing chains and tensioners.

Anyone know if it is an engine out job? And how much it might cost to get it done?

Hi, it is an engine out job as there are four chains with associated guides the chain system when viewed is like a maze and good long days work, cost wise I would be guessing, so have good shop around.

That’s pretty much what I’d thought. Looks like the chains are all on the back of the engine. Would have been nice if they were on the front. Much easier and prob do it myself.

But I will get some quotes and see. 👍
