we have clutch problems on our 1996 a4 b5 1.9tdi AFN engine. Difficulty getting to the split slave cylinder hose to remove it and order new. Does anyone know if it’s just generic hose, or actually attached to the metal pipes? My partner is tearing his hair out trying to get at nuts in impossible places. Thanks Jacqui

Hi I am pretty sure they are attached to the metal pipes I don't think they are generic but if you order a new one that on inspection should give you a clue as to what you have to undo to renew it.

I can find the actual slave cylinder on eBay etc, but not the pipe work. Audi don’t stock the parts for this model any more, so it’s trying to find after market parts.

Well, he finally got the pipe work out. Now to order a new part.

Can't find the part anywhere. The only thing I can think of is to find a company who would be able to put a new piece of rubber hose on to the pipe work with compression fittings. Is there such a company?

Google ‘ commercial vehicle hydraulic specialists’ in your area. They should be able to assist to resolution.

I have already contacted local hydraulic hose specialists, both locally and further afield with no joy. They don’t do anything that small. I contacted ‘demon tweeks’ and I would have to give them specifications to attempt to find compression fittings that might fit.

Hi from your pictures it looks like the male solid pipe screws into the metal bit attached to the rubber it may well be worth trying a motor factor to see if they have a similar rubber hose even if its a bit longer you can easily loose a couple of inches when routing the pipe.

Unfortunately the hose wasn't screwed in, it was a solid compression fitting. My partner solved the problem by fabricating a single piece of brake pipe (left over from building his trike). He has a flaring kit, so cut off the fittings on the old pipe and put them on the new one. After much cursing and swearing, taking out the driver's seat, all the foot pedals falling apart, he eventually got it all fitted back together, and it works brilliantly. He says he needs to bleed the system again to make sure there's no air left, but we've been using it since July 29th.
