A1 TFSI start issues

Hello all!

My A1 has just has this issue start today. Started with a "Low battery" warning on the entertainment screen. The car doesn't even try to crank. Put in key, clutch down and the turn key and nothing but a load of errors:
ESC FAULT
TPMS FAULT
OIL PRESSURE
Headlight range control defective
Red battery light

I've disconnected the battery and left it for 10 mins, reconnected and the low battery warning is away from entertainment screen but all of the above errors flash up still.

Tried a jump pack incase there was a battery issue but still not even trying to turn over. Could the battery be at fault or am at looking at worse?

Work been done recently was a clutch master cylinder and seals. And then sple suspension bushes a few weeks ago at MOT.

Hello Jonathan,

On the basis of simple things first, always suspect the battery efficiency in cases such as yours. 
Is it possible that the battery is the original? If so, you are on  borrowed time, even though it might test as marginally efficient. 
Since you cannot start the car, then the only option would be to remove it and take to your nearest Halfords store and get it checked. 
If it’s believed to be the original, then personally I wouldn’t even bother - I’d just get a new one. 
If you do, then always invest wisely and get a good quality battery. Incase it helps, I have recently bought Exide batteries at most reasonable cost from Tayna Batteries via. their EBay listings. They may push you towards their own branded Enduroline, but you will find Exide are cheaper, and in my experience - possibly better.

Yeah I think I'll just pull the battery and pop a new one in and take it from there. It all happened really quickly ( temps got close to freezing where I am just before all this started so I'm not sure if the weather has finally killed it).

 

Car is been in the family since 2016 and we're pretty sure it's not been changed.

We've got another car ( a 1.6 Citroen THP) which has a fairly new battery. I'm assuming I could pull this and do a quick test in the Audi before buying a new one?

Hello Jonathan,

Personally, I wouldn’t mess about swopping batteries, if only from the point that the Citroen could need recoding once its battery is removed and replaced. 
I’d work on the principle that the Audi battery had done its time, so it’s an insurance to renew it - as you would do if it were a tyre. 
As I said, Tayna seem to have some good value Exide.

Perhaps you could update us on whether they are still competitive in comparison with others. 
The new battery will need coding to the car.

Hi,

No joy after swapping out the battery/coding. Car has been scanned and is pulling up multiple errors so unfortunately needs an Audi specialist to have a look at it.

Update, AA came out first.  Looks like the positive cable under the bonnet had corrosion on it. Cleaned this up and car started first turn!
