UK B9.5 A5 Sportsback - Where is the oil type sticker

Featured Replies

Hello,

Can anyone confirm where their sticker is for this vehicle type?

I know that it is common to find under the hood. Either on the radiator cover, or on the underneath of the bonnet. I also checked the fuel sticker.

In the manual it only says in a cryptic way that you should check with your dealer, or otherwise you can top up 1ltr of 504 or 508 in an emergency.

I had assumed the EA888 Gen3B would be 0w20 only, but 504 would suggest otherwise.

Hello Jay,

The definitive answer usually lies in the Owners Handbook. Have you looked there?
It could just be me, but I haven’t noticed any oil grade and specification-within-grade stickers.
‘Common to find under the hood’ - ?
Just as a matter of interest:- your terminology ‘hood’ rather than  bonnet - any American association?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth, You'll note that I checked the owners manual, but it does not definitely say, hence the question.

(you'll also note that I used both terms 😉)

Thanks Jay. Sorry I missed your reference to the manual. As I see it, your option now lies at the dealer parts department where you go and buy yourself a litre of ‘oil’ to top up the car, then you will know what grade, and specification within grade, you really need.

Possible alternative:- contact Opie Oils and armed with your reg. no. - ask them. Perhaps same question to Smith and Alan Ltd.

Yeah I already reached out to Opie and they suggested some oils (interestingly their website engine did not have details, but their support was good).

But my question remains, as it was not what is the right oil for my car, but where is the information.

I find it odd that Audi UK do not routinely put the information somewhere for the driver to find.

Looking at US forums you can see that they have the information under the bonnet.

Repeating:-

The information is at any Audi dealership, or on Autodata’s motor trade system if it goes to a registered garage for servicing.
So what did Audi tell you the correct oil was?

The oil grade will depend on the climate it is to be used in, so there no one single grade of oil that is ideal around the world, hence the need to consult Audi in your country of use.

I have never seen any oil data stickers on cars in Britain, either under the bonnet or elsewhere on the car. Perhaps that is a uniquely American practice. As Magnet mentioned, get the information from Audi.
