Welcome Neil, and thanks for joining.
Have you had a quote from Audi?

Have you done a Google search on alternatives  - including EBay?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi , thanks for the welcome. Yes I’ve been searching but so far haven’t found a solution. This could be due to my lack of technical knowledge, but I really can’t seem to find the solution. Cheers

The solution will rest with an Audi dealer Neil, but at cost!

Justification of that cost will depend on how frequently you visit unknown territory, and the likelihood of how the road layouts have changed significantly over the last 12 years - in your case.
Perhaps you could let us know what you decide once you have visited Audi.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Thanks for the reply Gareth , the main issue is that my better half is not well travelled on the roads and as such could do with clear up to date instructions, whereas I’m familiar with most roads up and down the country. She has some trips planned to meet up with friends and family whilst I’m at work, so I was just trying to give her the best possible help. I will try Audi . Thanks again

Thanks Neil,

Sounds good reason. Let’s hope someone on here has come up with a reasonably priced solution, since I fear Audi will damage your wallet.
I still wonder ‘how far out’ the 2012 version will be in practice.
I guess it will be resorting to phone in holder attached to the screen otherwise.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Depends what version mmi you have. If you have a six cd disc changer in the dashboard the it’s a 2g mmi so the sat nav drive is in the boot on the right hand side in the spare wheel well. In which case you just need to buy an upto date cd from eBay then eject the original disc from the drive in the boot and swap it. Try ejecting it before you buy though as some dealers used to lock the drive so it wouldn’t eject the disc in which case would need unlocking using vcds. If you have a single cd unit in the dash with 2 sd card slots and a sim then it’s a 3g mmi and you need a upto date sat nav sd card

Hi , thanks for the info. I have a single cd in the dash and two slots for sd cards , one of which has an sd card in .( also a cd multichanger under the centre arm rest) So it looks like a new as card then . I take it it’s just a case of removing the existing card and replacing it with a new one? . Sorry for my ignorance but I’ve only just bought the car and I don’t have any owner manual and it’s all new to me. Your help is much appreciated . Regards Neil

Without meaning to be patronising Neil, it’s always good to note when a poster acknowledges help given by another member - regrettably rare - so really pleased Dave has been able to help.
Re. No handbook. Worth having a look on EBay. You should find one there, and they are a useful thing to have.

Good luck with sorting it all out.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

From memory you don’t need to leave the sd card in so the sd card that’s already in might not be for your sat nav it might be music. You just put the sat nav sd card in and then press setup and it will have options in there to update/copy I think. I might of missed something as it’s been a few years since I did mine. Check Audi’s website as I think for some versions you could create an account and download the update for free to put onto a sd card. Not sure if they still do it but definitely worth having a look.

Well I’m passing my thanks on to Dave, but it does give us a lift when efforts on here are known to be appreciated.
Our thanks to you both.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

  • 11 months later...

I just read this post and apologise for being a bit late to the party!  I have a 2016 Q7 S Line 3 ltr v6 diesel that I purchased 8 months ago with 13400 genuine miles.

As the sat nav mapping and speed limits are well out of date I decided to update it, I asked my local dealer (Jardine) for a price. . . . .  wait for it . . . . . £634,  and there was me thinking I'd get change from £200!  Had a look on ebay and found satnavishop.co.uk.  For £79.99 I got 4 SD cards and 13 pages of instructions, I now have a fully updated 2025 satnav.  It took me just over 3 hrs to install but I am getting on a bit and not so tech savvy so took things slowly as any mistakes can wreck the MMI unit.

Hope this info is of help someone.
