Clicking noise when full lock

Featured Replies

So I’ve just seen an Audi specialist in my local area regarding a very feint clicking noise come from full lock either way but only when trying to park. At first the diagnosis was a new steering rack as it had some play. This was replaced (luckily it was covered under a third party warranty). The noise is still there! The garage has checked everything multiple times and cannot fault anything.

Does anyone else notice this on their car? The car drives and steers perfectly by the way.

This is a well known VAG specialist in my area so you could say a trusted garage that know what they are on about.

What do you suggest I should do? Carry on as normal and live with it?

I have a 2023 A4 that does this that's still under warranty. I notice some clicking and clunking at other times also. As you said, other than that it drives and steers perfectly, although it does seem a little jerky at slow speeds (even for a DCS). I took it to the dealership and they said nothing was wrong... So, as you said, I'm just carrying on as normal and living with it.

Your dealership is lying to you, either through reluctance to pay out under the terms of their guarantee or from incompetance in the workshop. No car should have perceptible clicking or knocking in the steering. I suspect the dealer is hoping you will live with it until the guarantee has run out and he can wash his hands of it.

Hi, do you get the clicking when you have the indicator on? I had a problem where I got a loud clicking when indicator is on and turn the steering wheel, was worse when full lock the steering wheel. Audi repaired it under warranty, apparently it was something to do with a ring/seal for the air bag in the steering column as they are connected. It fixed for a while but came back so assume it will keep failing

I have a similar problem that I can hear a tic-a-tic-a-tic sound when significantly turning, under power not coasting, left or right.  I read somewhere it could be the CV joints and have booked it in to investigate with a small indie garage I like to use near my home. I'll report back.

I had same problem, clicking noise when turning right and accelerating same time. Changed cv joint and problem is gone

I have same problem on my B9 A4 2017. I hear it more in the winter but seems to ease up a little in the summer. Happens during full lock / turning. Car drives fine through, no issues, drives straight. My garage took a look in Jan this year and said everything looks good with the suspension/joints etc no rips or tears etc. He even greased the engine mounts i think but that didn't seem to help much.

Haven't experienced any significant issues driving though. Feels safe. I do have my MOT coming up in November I think so will see what MOT tester says as CV joints is something that is checked.
