Gearbox Crossmember query

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've just had my ZF gearbox serviced on my BiTdi using a genuine ZF service kit which made a noticeable improvement to the gearbox.

My question is should I have changed the gearbox Crossmember bolts for new ones?        They obviously weren't included in the ZF service kit and I'd have to get them from Audi.

My mechanic thinks they're one use stretch bolts. They've been put back on for now and I'm happy to replace them if everyone thinks it's it's worth doing.

Many thanks in advance

Hi the only thing I have ever used on any bolt I have re used is a dab of blue thread lock they wont move with that on them, I get fed up with all this rumour spreading about stretch bolts the rule of thumb being anything to do with the engine, clutch, timing belt you use new bolts, anything else provided the thread is good can be reused.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your advice, I would agree with your thoughts here, it seemed over the top to me too for these bolts. Unless I hear another opinion arguing against reusing the original bolts I will leave it as.
