Tracie B Posted October 30 Share Posted October 30 We took delivery of our Audi Q7 in August and when driving yesterday the front sun roof exploded outward, the noise was so frightening got in touch with Audi dealer and then called Audi assist so far so good, they arrived within 2 hours and took the car to the dealership, they organised a hire car from Enterprise which we collected last evening Today they tell us that they will give us an estimate for the sunroof as not covered by warranty and are collecting hire car and replacing with a pool vehicle as they don’t want to pay for hire as not under warranty Surely with a car that is under 3 months old with 2134 miles on the clock and nothing hit the car we are convinced this is a fault with the glass, but the computer says no Any one out there who would be able to advise as we feel this is totally an Audi problem thank you in advance tracie Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

cliffcoggin Posted October 30 Share Posted October 30 Assuming the sun roof was not hit by a stone or other missile, then there is no doubt that the dealer who sold you the car is liable for its repair. It may well be a manufacturing fault at Audi that led to its destruction, but it is the vendor who has liability. The dealer will undoubtedly prevaricate but don't give in to him. Steve Q Posted October 30 Share Posted October 30 I'd be speaking to Audi customer services asap. This should definitely be a warranty job. Makes me wonder if the car has got damaged in transit on the way to the dealer. You could also try contacting the motoring ombudsman but this is a long process (6 months plus). Also if you bought it on finance then it might be worth speaking to the finance company, stating your case that the car is not fit for purpose and want a refund/end early etc. The finance company then should do a battle with Audi. Also research your consumer law. In the UK if there's a fault with a product (including cars) with the first 6 months of purchase then in the eyes of the law the defect was there at the time of sale and it's the responsibility of the seller to prove otherwise. Not wishing to be patronising, but I think you have had very sound advice on here so far. A couple of points I would add:- record every contact in writing (e-mail confirming phone calls etc. will do). This will prove to be of vital importance if you have to legally progress this issue. We take it you don’t have the broken glass evidence -? My stab at this is that the breakage has emanated from a point where there was a stress raiser, and this maybe due to a flexing of the body shell at sometime/point. Too late now, but I would avoid these panoramic roofs like the plague - a source of your problem, and later a potential source of leaks. I would also suggest you visit, and seek advice from CAB.
