2007 1.6 Petrol A3 Wont crank

Featured Replies

Hi all, new here desperately seeking help. My wife arrived home this evening after a push start from the train station. All lights illuminate on the dash when ignition is on, go to crank and nothing happens, not even a click or a light dimming. Checked the battery voltage and its approx 12.8V. I've been googling this for hours looking for locations relays and fuses. Are there any on this model related to my non cranking issue? I attached a pic of the under bonnet relay fuse/relay box.

Thanks for reading , any help would be appreciated greatly

Mike

Welcome Michael,

Sorry to hear of your issue. Regrettably, I cannot see how anyone can isolate the actual problem without access to the car.
Probably pretty obvious but it could be anything from battery or any connection there on, ignition switch , wiring, relay, starter motor solenoid or motor itself.
As I see it would be best left to a trusted local auto electrician to source the problem for you, unless you are equipped with suitable test equipment and the experience to use it.
Apologies.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Michael.

While the problem may be any of those that Gareth listed, there is also a good chance that the battery may be at fault if it is more than say six years old. The 12.8 volt reading tells you nothing about the internal condition of the battery so I advise you to get it tested professionally. The reason is that the car's electronic systems are sensitive to seemingly trivial power variations.

Hi Cliff, after a lot of searching for fuses and reletive relays I gave up and resorted to old school tactics, a good firm wack with something heavy , low and behold it worked, new starter ordered and i will fit shortly. Thanks guys

Thanks Michael,

Are you ordering a new Audi starter (at great expense!).

If not, you may find your replacement may not last as long as your occasionally used hammer shaft!

Im quiet sure the starter will outlive the the rest of the vehicle
