Coolant Leak A7 2016

Featured Replies

Just had a pressure test done and the end result is the change over valve inside the ‘V’ of the engine needs replacing. Apparently it’s a big job where most parts of the engine needs to be dismantled. Not been given a quote yet but looking in the region of £1000.
The question is that the coolant leak isn’t so surveyor, therefore leaving it for the time being will the problem get worse? Will it cause further damage if its not resolved straight away?
Thanks in advance

Coolant leaks rarely get better. I understand it's a lot of money, but you you run a risk on say a longer journey where the car is to temperature, or even dumps coolant and leaves you stranded. Couple of options, park it up until you have the necessary funds and use for short run journeys. Not sure what you have transport wise near you for commuting, but suspect it's a damn sight better than north of the wall!

Hello Naresh,

You don’t tell us how much coolant you are losing in x miles, so no one can logically advise you.
Regards,

Gareth.

Coolant warning comes up maybe 3 months possibly 2-2.5K miles

Does that mean it uses a reservoir full of coolant in 2 to 2.5 K miles?

Yes up to the max level then drops down past min but I tend to top it up before the warning light appears.

Thanks Naresh,

I would suggest restricted use and very frequent level checking when you do have to use it. Don’t depend on the ‘low coolant ‘ message popping up to remind you to do that.

Regards,

Gareth.
