Lack of acceleration

Featured Replies

Hi all i wonder if anyone can offer any advice regarding an issue i have with my 2017 a6 avant . I took it on a long trip at the weekend from Manchester to Portsmouth 247 miles the car did not miss a beat on the way there but it was a different story on the way back . 120 miles into my return journey i lost all acceleration i tried to overtake a middle lane hogger put my foot down and nothing foot to the floor and going nowhere fast . it is a manual car so i ended up using the gears just to keep going the slightest gradient on the motorway and i was having to drop gears to get up them . 120 odd miles later i finally got home turned the car off . About an hour later i took it out and all was back to normal . Whilst all this was going on there was never any warning lights on the dashboard i scanned it for codes but no issues found . Any help would really be appreciated . I have only had the car 3 weeks and this is taking the fun out of it

It sounds like limp mode which can be caused by many things, one of which is a dying battery.

If you bought it from a dealer take it back for free repair. On the other hand if it came from a private seller I suggest you first get the battery professionally tested involving a deep discharge. A voltage reading from a multimeter is useless.

If the battery proves to be fine you should get the fault diagnosed on a decent code reader.

Hi thanks for your reply would it going into limp mode not bring a light up on the dash . That as happened before on other vw audi cars i have owned and it brought up the yellow engine symbol or the flashing glow plug light

Not necessarily if the battery is dying. You may also get apparently unrelated electronic faults from a defective battery. I have experienced loss of radio pre-sets, loss of aircon, and loss of cruise control from a faulty battery yet not a single warning lamp was lit.
