Misadvertised car

Featured Replies

Hi all would love some help/advice.

I recently bought a 2020 A7. It was from a reputable main dealer with multiple branches. They also have other brand dealerships merc,vw,seat etc - very large player in the car market.

The car was advertised on numerous car sales sites, their own website and I assume Audis, as well as on socials. In all ads it was listed as a Quattro model. I asked both salespeople if it was quattro both said yes.

I'm no expert but it did have 21inch audi sport quattro wheels and being a well established dealer network I took them for their word.

It has since transpired this is a FWD I had this confirmed by Audi themselves by email.

My question is- what should I expect from the dealer. It was priced about 4k above other ones with higher mileage. I plan to contact them with screenshots and recordings of their ads and videos.

Is it a case for the advertising standards authority to step in?

Would love some advice

Thanks

Nmcc

While you could involve the ASA, that alone would not resolve the financial aspect of the matter.

You would be better advised to approach the dealer for a refund, but be certain to have incontrovertible proof of the true specification of the car as well as its claimed spec. If the dealer is as big a company as you say there is a good chance it will make you a reasonable offer.

Thanks I may go down that road, I just feel I paid for something I didn't get, based on their provided information

Apologies for jumping in on this Nmcc ( could you amend this to your proper name please), but I feel the advice you have been offered is both sound and logical.
‘Thanks I may go down that road..,’ suggests you would ideally like to go down another avenue -?
The simple fact is you bought this misrepresented car from a dealer, so your redress starts and rests there. As I see it, only after you fail to get the resolution you want, would you need to extend your discontent to other organisations - unless you want a fight at this stage!
Perhaps you would be kind enough to amend your profile, and let us know how you get on with your quest to get this resolved.
Regards,

Gareth.

Some cars come without it some people remove it and also some add it- thers so many Golf's out there  with fake kits and badges. I trusted the main dealer, asked the questions and believed the answer. The diff isnt visible on these unless on a ramp or if you lay under them on a wet floor

Go back with your evidence and ask for a refund or money off of the asking price, whichever you prefer. If they don't play ball contact their head office and try the same, if you still get no joy mention social media and always remember the Citizens Advice Bureau really are your best friend in situations like this (assuming you have them in Ireland?). They will give you better advice and help than we can here. I really hope you get a result from speaking to the dealer as ending up in the small claims court will be a real hassle. Good luck mate, and please keep us informed, I for one would be really interested to hear how this plays out.

Maybe so, but what do you want to get out of the dispute? A grovelling apology? A discount on the price? A full refund? Condemnation from the ASA? Your answer should dictate the action you take.

Exactly what Clifford said, when you go in don't be woolly or vague in what you want, these people are professionals at what they do and will know they have you on the ropes at that point. Be calm, clear and firm in what you expect from them without it descending into a shouting match, that will get you nowhere. If they won't budge inform them that you will be taking it further and walk away.

Thanks guys. Nice to hear others views. I've emailled asking for a meeting, as its documented rather than a phone call to dealer. Ill update in time

Ammend what part of it. There are people on here called joebloggs what difference does it make i ask in the kindest way.

I don't know what the official line is but from my point of view it's nice to be able to use someone's name when answering them rather than a string of letters or numbers, it's just a first name after all, nothing mega.

The vast majority of members on here, state their proper name rather than choose to remain anonymous, which obviously allows a more personal interchange.
Let me ask you a connected question:-

Would you feel you could walk into a Citizens Advice Bureau, ask for legal associated advice, and not be prepared to disclose your name?
Your choice - whoever you are - and the forum retains its right to deal with that situation, once you have made your decision.
Regards,

Gareth.

Hi if you get on your hands and knees and look under the car the transfer box in the middle and the rear differential are always visible you would have to go some to fake that.

Yes it's Noleen Mc Cawley.

Will this suffice Mr Magnet?

Doesn't seem so much like a random stream of letters now, well played Noleen, lol.
