Brakes

Featured Replies

Good afternoon I own a 2009 A6 C6 2.8 estate and I want to replace the disc’s and pads all round as I have slight warping on my front ones , what I would like advise on is whether to replace them with upgraded ones ie drilled and grooved ones as they are twice the price and I don’t know if they are worth buying , thanks for any advice you can offer

I would stick to the standard ones. Do you know if "drilled and grooved" brakes you were looking at actually offer any improved performance? It would be interesting to know. However, I have never been in a situation where I thought that standard brakes were not enough. I would just save my the money and buy regular brakes. Just my view.

Welcome Alan.

I think we will need a bit more information before being able to offer constructive advice on this.

Would you describe your driving style to be on ‘enthusiastic’ side of normal, and/or do you depend on your brakes more than normal, with being ‘ rather late on the brakes’?

Do you know what discs and pads are currently fitted, and when, and what makes you think the front discs are warped? - a common misconception for similar symptoms caused by other problems?
Regards,

Gareth.

Hi drilled discs give quicker cooling but drilled and grooved will eat pads because of the grooves, best policy use standard Brembo or ATE Parts.

Steve.

Standard vented discs and pads all day long. By standard, I mean good quality, Ate, Zimmermann, Textar, TRW, etc.

Only reason to go drilled and grooves is if you potentially use the car on track days, or you drive it hard.

That said, you can still get cars that feel that they have inadequate brakes.

Used to have an Audi A4 2.5TDI Quattro Avant (basically Amtrak locomotive). Not particularly powerful by today’s standard, but seriously lacked braking power given its weight.

In those cases, go for a compatible brake upgrade. That often means changing the carriers, flexi hoses and calipers, not to mention discs and pads.

Are you going to return to the forum and read, and hopefully acknowledge the advice you asked for.
To date, you appear to have joined the forum, posted a plea for advice at the same time, and simply not bothered to return to read that advice.

Thanks to you all for your advice as I only use the car for social and pleasure use I have taken note and will be replacing them with standard disc’s and pads  .

I’ve used Brembo discs and pads to good effect - if that helps.
Try Carparts in Motion at Exeter for competitive prices and good service - no personal connection. Keep an EBay eye out for when they have additional discounts ( sometimes at the end of the month).

Please let us know how you get on.

Gareth.
