eTron GT Electric Fault (and HV Battery Heater Recall)

Featured Replies

Hello all

New member here with my first ever Audi and my first EV. My eTron GT is 3 years old (I've had it 5 months) and I suspect it was originally a demonstrator as it is full of "toys"....which is what made me buy it. Still a boy at heart!

A month or two ago, when I went to start the car in the morning, I had a red warning light with something like "Electrical fault. Stop immediately" (those aren't the words but it's the gist) and the car wouldn't go into drive or reverse. I called out the AA to recover the car to Audi but by the time they arrived it had cleared itself.

The same thing happened again a couple of weeks later but this time it took maybe 8 hours to clear itself. So, I booked the car into Audi to look at the fault and it was a 2 week wait for a routine appointment. The day before my appointment the fault came back and this time it wouldn't clear so I had to be recovered from inside my garage and taken to Audi. I appreciate that the error message is pretty vague but I wondered if there were any similar experiences and what caused it?

The car is currently with Audi. After it had been delivered to them, but before they started work on it, I had a message through the app that there was a recall. It is 82NE replacing high voltage heater. I see there was discussion about this last November so am not sure why mine has only just popped up. Maybe it's not the same one?

I have everything crossed that it comes back soon and will update with the outcome.

I did have a look through the three pages of eTron posts and didn't see anything to help.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi When I had my GT I had a problem with some odd warning dialogue. My problem was that the 12 volt battery was running flat as I was only doing short runs. Once I had taken it on a good long journey the faults disappeared.

@Anton8 that's very interesting, as when the car was recovered to Audi, the 12V battery completely died and the recovery driver had to give it a boost. It could be the issue, as it's still not resolved and I do tend to do short journeys.

The car was with Audi for almost two weeks. They did the recall work first in which time the electrical fault cleared. They weren't able to identify anything causing the electrical issue but did hear a whining noise from the rear motor. They've added some diagnostic software and asked me to drive it until early October when it's booked to go back to them.

However, I got the car back last Thursday and it stayed in the garage until Monday when the fault reappeared. By Tuesday it had cleared itself and since then has been fine.

I'm going to get the 12V battery checked and take it on a long run to see what happens.

Thanks for the very helpful comment.

Perhaps you bought my GT?
