Glow Plug Flashing Light

Featured Replies

Hey All,

Not had the car long, about 2000 miles in.

A3 S-line 2010, 2.0L tdi - 89k miles FSH

Already had the EGR and DPF mapped out with the DPF gutted also. Plus a remap at same time.

Past few weeks i’ve started to notice the thermostat isn’t getting to 90DegC, there doesn’t seem to be much logic around this as it seems to fluctuate between 70 and 85 without any real logic… Thermostat stuck open maybe?

Today I got the body worked touched up (Bonnet off and rear bumper off) as happy with the car and literally as i start the car the flashing light comes on. Never seen this light before, had to google what it was. It flashed and went off after about a minute.

It wasn’t difficult to start, however I did notice the thermostat go closer to 90 than normal. Normal driving, no loss of power and nothing unusual.

Got home, left it for ten mins, started it again and same light flashed.

Left it for 4 hours, started it just now and no light flashing. started first time without any issues.

Can anyone help?

Could the thermostat temperature issue be linked to the glow plug light ?

Could the EGR and DPF work play a part in this ?

I’ve seen on the internet reference to a brake light switch, the rear bumper was off about an hour before I got back into the car and noticed this issue, could this be related ?

Ideally need to go into work tomorrow morning and it’s a further drive than normal and a little worried

Last thing to note, oil level and consumption seems normal, no oil leaks from what I can see, no coolant leaks either and coolant level looks normal.

Any help or piece of mind would be appreciated

Hi you need a diagnostic scan to find the problem, otherwise its guess and spend £.

Steve.
