After countless hours of swinging from site to site on the internet, I find myself here looking for a little help!

The boot on my A3 2005 will only open off the key. I was wondering if anyone has seen this issue before? I’m ready to grab a part and swap out a component, I just don’t know which component needs replacing!

Really appreciate any help with this. 

There is a good chance that the wiring within the corrugated rubber tube or bellows between boot lid and frame is damaged. It's a common fault and often affects doors & windows as well.

Have you carried out the inspection Cliff suggests? Well worth doing so before giving up on the DIY solution route. 

I’ll give it a browse tomorrow. I’m hopeful I can find the problem without having yet another £250 garage bill!

It won't cost anything to look, however if the wiring is damaged you need to be competant with soldering iron or proprietary connectors and heat shrink tubing. Twisted connections and sticky insulating tape will not solve the problem.
