Washer, indicator, cruise stalk

Hello all

Thanks for letting me join the forum!

All you like minded good people...my A4 2.7 tdi has a dodgy wiper switch, which I have read online "does happen!". Goes intermittent.  Have tried Audi for a new part, but it conveniently has been deleted...this year, none in the UK..they advised to check online.

The only one I can find similar ( as mine has all the bells and whistles of distance set and lane assist unfortunately) is a Q5 , same year, same B8..one letter on part number differs! ...just missing lane assist.

I never use lane assist so that suits me

Surely it would work??  Would a B8 q5 part fit an A4, surely the steering wheel shaft is the same! I have had the same car for 10 years and will go to any length to get a spare!!

Thanks all for any advice!

A lot of the parts are interchangeable but you need vcds to code them to your car or the car will have a brain !Removed! and your dash will light up like a Xmas tree.

I changed my controls to one with cruise control and before I coded it every warning under the sun was flagged. I can't remember where it is now but there is one page on Google under "cruise control retrofit" that one guy posted all the variation of controler codes that work on the A4.

Can you not find anyone breaking the same model on eBay?

Thanks for the insight - with breakers, tried every online going and nothing identical...

I placed a few humidity absorber bags in the car and since then it has improved, so high humidity makes it worse, which is good for now..it was a guess that has worked. It does go intermittent in summer though but not as much.

I will speak to my independent audi garage I use and keep putting alerts out for the part at breakers  - I am hopefull that the part comes in , as will need a skilled electrician to repair any issues if it breaks at the moment!

Cheers

If it's issues when humid then you can use wd40 non residue contact cleaner on the switches. I took mine apart as my main beam flash stopped working, easy enough job.

Ignition on but not started,

Remove positive terminal on battery,

Remove screw covers on steering wheel (3 o clock and 9 o clock position)

Remove the two torque screws (t30 I think)

Remove center of the steering wheel and disconnect the airbag,

Remove center steering wheel bolt

( spline bit tool and large wrench for leverage)

Remove steering wheel,

Remove lower cowling (1 screw underneath)

Lift upper cowling put of the way (2 screws behind steering wheel)

Undo blot behind clock spring and levers...

Remove the assembly and now you should be able to spray in contact cleaner from the front and back to clean all contacts.

Thanks so much!  That's a great breakdown and I will definitely do this if it becomes an issue again.  So far the humidity is low due to the dry bags and no issues!

I am running the air con regular too and even put a humidity meter on the dash..40 -50 % all the time now.

Luckily my MOT is in summer👍 Last year it passed and the wipers switch failed as I drove the car home! I swear the car toys with me sometimes, seems to enjoy causing me grief🤣

Cheers!

Do they check the wipers over there 😲 our MOT in NI they just check lights , horn ,brake then look underneath

I think wipers and spray are checked here, the car must have good visibility through windscreen at all times...
