Hi all I have recently bought myself a q5 automatic.

i have noticed there counter reading 1000 rpm instead of 800 rpm and when i turn of the engine the fan run on for a while . 
I then started the car up the rpm was 800 rpm

Hi if its a diesel you have probably shut it down before its finished a regeneration, they get very hot during this and the revs are up and the fan remains on to cool the engine, the reason the idle is back to 800 is because you have aborted the regeneration and it goes back to normal until the soot level rises again.
