How long to install map/driver assist update from USB?

Featured Replies

In the MyAudi app I had a notification of an update for maps and driver assistance systems.  The file is 02A00042.zip - 29GB.

I popped on to a 54G stick and popped it in the car.  After 10mins it was at 2%!    Is the install time linear does anyone know?

I switched the ignition off - hope that does mean I have bricked the car.  😀

I can't comment re the file size but I've installed map updates (on VWs) from a series of SD cards via the 5f unit and it takes several hours.

In fact on those occasions it was recommended you have the car connected to a charger as the ignition is on throughout which obviously keeps various power hungry modules awake.

I have just updated my map using the usb port. Took about 45 minutes, I stayed with the car and kept the engine running. All seems ok.

Good feedback folks.  Think I'll take a drive to install the update!

Yes, updates can take longer than you think. If doing it at home, then trickle charge to the battery. Did the same with map updates on an older A4 Allroad on SD cards.

A quick update on this.  After 10 minutes/2%, I gave up that attempt.  Switched off the ignition and locked up, but left the USB stick in the slot.  Next day I started the car and noted that the install was now at 30%!  I'm guessing the install continues until the car shuts down completely.  Anyway, the install resumed (nice!) and completed during a 40 minute or so drive.

Hope others might find this useful.
