Road Noise…… TYRES

Featured Replies

So, I love the look of my 2024 A3 Black Edition. Love the interior, feel, sound (SONOS). First ‘hatch’ after downsizing from a lifetime of A4 and A6 Avants (3 kids 2 dogs, that have all grown up, and started to go their own way…..well, not the dogs!).

Lots of ‘talk’ about road noise, which really took me by surprise, even after test drive, and despite the reviews about it. ‘On board’ with sound proofing and have a plan.

BUT, has anyone REALLY changed tyres that made you go “Oooo, that’s better”……!!?? Lots of interweb input about low noise tyres, but no real reviews from ‘humans’.

What’s your experience?

Thankyou.

My 2023 A3 edition 1 has 19" wheels fitted with goodyear f1 tyres. I do not find them any noisier than the mk7.5 Golf gti my son has with michelin ps4 on 18" wheels but must admit would like a little less noise so interested in other comments. Roads around where I live have lots of broken surfaces and generate a lot of tyre noise. Better on motorways etc.

Hi,

Quick one from me - just purchased a 2021 Audi A3 PHEV and I can agree the road noise is really bad, and I will be changing the tyres straight away.

Previously I had a BMW Z4 that was on Bridgestone run flats, which incidentally are the same make as my Audis, the ride was incredibly crashy and harsh so decided to change them for comfort tyres and after doing no end of research, landed on Michelin Primacy 4 and the ride quality, noise and more importantly safety was night and day, totally different. On the Bridgestones when taking a corner with less than perfect road surface the car would scuffle (not sure if thats the right word for it) across the surface which I found serious scary (a typically penalty I'm told of run flats) but with the Michelin it was so much better - I cannot emphasise the difference - it was a typically first thing to change within the BMW Z4 community.

With that I will be changing these for Michelin Primacy 4 or I might try the Primacy 5 which I would assume are better.
