Loss of wheel pressure light. Or is it?

Featured Replies

So, I have standard S line alloys and about 2 years ago I got warning light low pressure front right, thought nothing of it gave it some air and reset.

Happened again, usually within a week depending of usage.

So I went to tyre shop and got a new tyre. Then same again.

I swapped the wheel over and same.

But the tire is losing pressure.

So I got a whole new set of Alloys (needed them) and what do you know front right low pressure.....

Has anyone come across this? coudl it be TPMS playing up? Tyre guy said older wheel was not sealing right at the rim. Its just funny it happened same corner on new wheels.

I will swap the fronts around thsi weekend and reset again to see but just asking the question when I can.

Oh VCDS all clear

Yes the new wheels alloys and tyres came with tpms.

Hi. Sorry when I changed the wheel I filled all tires up and set to store values on the mmi.

that was the height of it. Then when it came up and checked pressure and it had dropped 10psi

OK we have established there is a real drop in pressure rather than an erroneous TPMS warning. The wheels are new so they can't be at fault. That leaves only the valves and the tyres that can lose air. Have you sprayed soapy water onto them? Any air loss will show as bubbles.

New to me. They are 2019 but unused. I have not tested them as of yet wanted to swap them about today but got called into work and still here.

Hopefully get the two fronts swapped around thsi week to test it that way. I will also keep the soppy water in mind too! Just very ironic its the same corner both times.

Thanks

I know alloy corrosion can lose tyre pressure. I’d have thought a 2019 rim should be fine, assuming it’s powder coated. If it’s diamond cut, they inevitably get corrosion due to lacquer failing.

If in doubt, refurbish the alloy, new powder coat, new valve and swap over TPMS sensor.

Would be worth scanning with VCDS if any other erroneous errors so you’re not on wild goose chase.

the VCDS did throw up like 4 errors but they all go when you fill it up and store settings.

Will swap over this week and see what happens
