New A4 arrival

Featured Replies

Now proud owner of a 2012 2.0 TFSI Avant due to imminent new addition to the family!!

Certainly ticks all the boxes other than the sat nav just keeps on “loading” in a constant loop & intermittent functionality on the centre console buttons etc. and MMI often off.

Garage bought it from are just ignoring me. Just wondered if there are any diagnostics I can look at?

TIA

Welcome Steve, and glad to hear you are pleased with the car, apart from the Sat. Nav.
When you say the garage are ignoring you - is that not returning your phone calls, or not responding to your e-mails?
If the former, I would recommend you e-mail them outlining the issue and asking them to respond by……. say 3 days from when you send it. If they don’t then take advice from CAB.
Re. diagnostics:- you run the risk of a retort of ‘you have been fiddling with it’, and this would be my last resort unless you intend not perusing the seller to sort it out.
Please let us know how things progress.
Regards,

Gareth.

Thanks for your response Gareth.

Have been emailing garage for last couple of weeks. They are due to send an SD card with map upgrades, but if the MMI doesn’t work not sure if I can upload?

On the lack of functionality, it seems to be getting ignored. Wasn’t sure if I borrowed a decent OBD scanner might shed some light on the source of the issues?

thanks

As I understand it MMI sort outs can be specialist and expensive.
Beware of their procrastination which can result in 30 days elapsing and your option of rejecting the car going out of the window.

Gareth.

Do a factory reset on the MMI. In the menu, select everything except the Sat Nav. There is a good chance since the car is 2012 it probably had a map update in its lifetime, so you could lose that. Everything else including phones linked to the car will be wiped.

If the garage sent out SD cards, then that’s dependent on the MMI staying on, and allowing you to update. If it does, then you’re going to need a trickle charger to the battery. Updating sat nav from SD cards can take a few hours.

if the MMI doesn’t stay on, then the car is going to need to be scanned with VCDS to see if there’s a power or critical error with the MMI. It will also show any other logged DTC errors.

Sounds like the garage have basically been paid & punted the car out. The bit I forgot to mention is it’s a Japanese import (as we couldn’t afford a UK spec one) - pretty disappointed in the after sales support to be honest.

Um. You will be paying a higher insurance premium on an import?
I also mentioned in a post a couple or so weeks back, that some marques are not treated with much if any underbody treatment for Japan destination. VAG??
Well worth getting the underside of this 14 year old car inspected, before deciding on your way forward.

Gareth.

It’s a low mile car, unnderside looks okay, but plan to get waxoyled soon. Had a few Japanese cars in the past & the underside protection is primer!

insursnce is okay in multi car.

Anyone put me in the right direction of companies or person who could look at this in the Edinburgh/Lothian region. Getting nowhere with the garage, they are basically ignoring all emails/messages.

This type of work is specialist. A Bosch registered auto-electrics might be able to do it, but I don’t know any specific garages. However there’s Fife Autotechnics. Their work is more on mechanical side, but they do ECU re-flashing and software updates so should be able to help. https://fifeautotechltd.co.uk

There’s also AV Adaptions, granted they are based in Aberdeen, but Adam is ex-Audi and specialises in Audi retrofits, so this job would be a walk in the park. https://www.avadaptions.co.uk/home

There’s a chance the MMI is damaged for whatever reason, so that might need to be factored in.

Thanks, due in Aberdeen soon so will give Adam a shout 👍🏻
