Q5 Ad-blue fault

Featured Replies

Hi, I have an ad-blue fault with my 2017 Q5 which I understand is a common thing. Local garage looking to charge £2k plus for tank, pump, control box etc.  This all currently on back order so I am still driving the car.

Main question is that the display keeps resetting to tell me that I have 650 miles before car won't start again. I have done 600+ miles since fault first appeared.

Can I trust the mileage noted in the car display ??

Many thanks,

Dave A.

Difficult to tell. VCDS might reveal more. Ad Blue faults include level sensor, heater or pump in the tank. The tank comes as an integrated unit which is swapped over. On a functioning AdBlue tank, you'll get a count-down until zero, at which point it needs to be filled with reductant or indeed reset possibly with ODIS which is dealer level. I'd keep journeys to a minimum, because if the car is giving you false information, you could be left high and dry, then face recovery charges.

Moving forward - start adding Forte Anti-crystal tat every AdBlue top-up.

Dave any update on how things are going with the Adblue issue, did you try the Forte Anti-crystals? I’m Interested as I’ve the same model and year and hear this is a common problem, so just trying to gleam some knowledge

I've just had my ad-blu tank replaced along with the module? on my 2018 Q5. With the cost of the parts, labour charges & £250 for a specialist to recode the new tank to the car the total cost of the job was £2,850. OUCH !! I did consider having it mapped out but I want to keep the car for a few more years so decided on the replacement route.

That’s a painful bill, I fully understand why others get the AdBlue deleted out. Im hoping that Dave Adam who created this topic comes back with an update on how he got on and did he try using the AdBlue anti crystals?
