Turbo actuator

Featured Replies

Hello all,  I’m new on here, asking for some help if anyone can,I had the engine light on the dash and on start up the drive system fault shows with the start stop system fault simultaneously, the fault on the computer showed the actuator, had this changed but I’m still having the same issue, has anyone else been unfortunate with this ,thanks

Get the battery professionally tested as a first step. A dying battery can can cause false warnings such as yours. Do not rely on a multimeter voltage reading. The meter does not impose enough load to give useful information.

Unless the car has actually gone into limp mode, then I wouldn’t read too much into it. If it is the actuator, then chances are you’ll need to swap out the turbo, as the actuator and turbo are calibrated and the turbo vanes will have carbon build up. If the turbo needs replaced, then you’ll need a new exhaust manifold gasket and oil feed line too. They inevitably leak at the oil feed union.

Clear DTC codes and see what come comes back. As mentioned, check battery with multimeter. It should be in region of 12.4-12.7v at standing, not started. If replacing AGM battery, it will need coded to the car.

If you don’t have access to VCDS, then either book it in for a scan. Most VAG independent garages will be able to do this, otherwise it’s a bit of a guessing game.

The garage or whoever replaced the actuator should be able to rule out the actuator with a vacuum test to see if it loses pressure.

Hi,yes the boot battery was changed a few months back,I’ve since gone back to my garage, and as per told previously about it already been calibrated to the turbo,I’ve now been told his system isn’t reading anything so I’m off to a garage to have the genuine actuator and turbo properly calibrated, then this should solve all problems, thanks

Boot battery? Are you implying this is a hybrid drive system which also has a 48 volt starter/generator and battery? If that's the case all bets are off. Please confirm your power unit.
