Hi Everyone

just joined so my apologies if this is a silly question, I recently purchased a 2010 A5 2.0 TFSI convertible and I had a POO16 code come up, I replaced both the camshaft and crankshaft sensors and now it turns over but will not start! any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, also a strange thing happened whilst I was replacing the crankshaft sensor, all the windows went down ?

Hi I don't think the windows going down has anything to do with your problems have you actually had the vehicle scanned as there are multiple causes for that code including a stretched timing belt/chain, a seized variable valve timing solenoid, when you changed the crank sensor if its the type at the back of the engine you might have dislodged the reluctor ring [easily done].

Hi Steve

Thanks for the reply, I think I have sorted out the problem (although not gone for a long drive yet) but it seems when I replaced the crankshaft sensor it was not seated correctly, I took it out and made sure it went back in square, so now it starts on the button and no warning light.

Hi as I said could well be multiple factors but my guess would be the VVT solenoid as if thats not working the acceleration will be slow as the oil pressure won't be via the solenoid altering the valve timing when you give it beans, but I would recommend a scan as that would show a valve fault on live data.

Hi Steve

where is the vvt solenoid located I have tried to find it but no luck.

thanks

Steve

Quite a while since I had an a5 but I think it is at the front of the engine over the timing chain cover and camshafts. Can get gunked up if oil is not changed regularly.

Hi from memory the top picture and I think its down below the plug packs second one from the front, other engines pre 2010 have them at the back of the cylinder head, to check you have the right part go on LLL carports put in your VIN and search engine parts for VVT solenoid that should give the right part number to shop with, they all have this system but most brands fit the solenoid in to the camshafts BMW vanos being a prime example they all misbehave at some point they either rattle like on Alfas or just clap out.
