Advice Needed: Front tyre down to cords on e-tron 55

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Hoping for some collective wisdom. I’ve just noticed the inner edge of my front driver-side tyre is completely bald—actually down to the cords—while the rest of the tyre and the other fronts look relatively okay.

The Car:

2022 Audi e-tron 55 Quattro

Equipped with 1BK Air Suspension

Tyres: Continental SportContact 255/50R20 109H (AO marked)

The Dilemma:

The tyre is clearly dangerous and needs immediate replacement. Since the other tyres are fine, I’m hoping to replace just the one (or at most the front pair). However, I’m worried about the drivetrain/Quattro system being sensitive to tread depth differences.

My questions for the group:

Alignment: Has anyone else had this extreme inner-wear issue? Does the air suspension need a specific "calibration" mode during alignment that some shops might miss?

Replacement: On an e-tron 55, is it "safe" to replace just one front tyre if the other has, say, 5-6mm left, or will the Quattro system protest?

Local Knowledge: I’m in the Telford/Wolverhampton area. Aside from the main dealer, does anyone recommend a specialist who actually knows how to align an e-tron correctly? I've heard AP Automotive or EAC Telford are good, but would love personal experiences.

Attached a photo of the damage. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Replace in pairs. There’s a danger of damaging the diff otherwise.

On the N/S tyre, suspect it’s not the air suspension as such. Our roads are full of potholes. You need an inspection on the front multi link arms and bushes to check for damage. Then get full 4 wheel laser alignment.

Also check air pressures. I’m sure car has onboard system if one was over or under inflated.
