Cam Belt Interval

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2015 Audi A5 coupe 2.0 TDI. I’ve been told by a local mechanic that the cambelt intervals have recently changed to 140,000 miles! Can anyone confirm if this is true.

I thought it was 80,000 or 4 Years. But he said it’s not required yet.

thanks in advance.

The Audi recommendation for cambelt renewal has changed over the years from around 80000 to 140000 and all shades in between, as you will see if you search these forums. The average recommendation from forum members in the trade is around 80000 miles or five years, whichever comes first. It's an expensive job, but nowhere near as expensive as the consequences of cambelt failure i.e. a new engine.

Welcome Steve,

The cambelt assembly should have been changed around 2020 - was it? A brave owner may follow the current Audi dictate, so it really depends on how brave you are and/or how long you intend keeping it.

What is the current mileage?

Regards,

Gareth.

Thanks,

My mechanic didn’t sound like he wanted to do it and was adamant it wasn’t necessary

Total miles is 146,000 and it was last changed in 2022 on 96000 (just before I bought it, the garage supplied the paperwork). As with all cars, I intend to keep this one until it’s uneconomical to maintain.

I had my last Audi a6 until it was 17 years old with 196000 on the clock.

Since it is a keeper, I would be getting the assembly renewed next year - under the old guidance of ‘……. or 5 years…..’.

The unknown here is were main dealer parts used when it was last renewed? If not, then your mechanic cannot claim that the vehicle can travel c 145k since it was last renewed - anyway.

Regards,

Gareth.
