19 inches and rubbing

Featured Replies

Hi, so I just got an A3 8p that has some lovely le mans 19" wheels that needed rear tyres so I replaced them with the exact same tyres 255/35/19 and they are rubbing with just me in the car. Would coil overs help with this or should I just go to 18"? I would prefer to keep them if possible sorry if its a silly question any advice would be appreciated.

oh ok i will check them tomorrow i assumed they were worn down so thats why they didnt rub thanks for the reply i will update once ive checked them.

Couple of questions Dean,

Are they rubbing the top underside of the arch, or the inside face of the arch?

Have you checked that the wheel and tyre size option you have, is a correct option for your car?

Regards,

Gareth.

i dont know where there rubbing yet im going to have a good look today when i check the pressures and i have no idea about the options its just what the car came with and the few days i had it there wasnt any rubbing until i renewed the tyres thanks for the reply i will definitely update when i know anything.

so i checked the pressures and they were fine i think they didnt rub before because of how worn they were. im going to get 235/35/19 as they look like there rubbing slightly on the outside edge and i think the thinner tyres should fit alot better thanks guys for your advice.

Thanks Dean, but you cannot just spend on trying different width tyres, any of which may not be correct for the car, and could invalidate your insurance.

Have a look on the inside of the fuel flap and you might find acceptable wheel and tyre size alternatives there, and let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Gareth.

i checked the fuel flap and theres nothing there about wheel or tyre sizes. i googled what size tyres fit on 19" wheels on a 8p and it says 235/35/19 and then checked if the wheels were able to have that size tyre and it says the s3 has them so im really hopeful. worst case i will sell the wheels with a set of brand new continentals and get some 18".

It seems 19 inch wheels were not a factory approved option on the 2004 A3. Maximum accommodated wheel dia. was 18 inch, so you could run into insurance issues in event of an accident.
