More Q4 e-tron charging issues

Featured Replies

I thought our charging issues were behind us, but alas, woke up this morning to a car that had only been charged from 43% to 55%, rather than upto 80%. I can't tell you how frustrating this is.

The car is 17 months old and around 4 months ago Ohme installed a new charger and this appeared to resolve a lot of our charging issues, which was great since Harrogate Audi was threatening to charge us if we took the car to them for diagnostics and they didn't find anything wrong.

We've had a couple of charging hiccups in the last 4 months, but this is by far the worst and we are getting a new "Charging could not be stopped" error message in the Audi app i.e. one we haven't seen before:

A strange error message, and utterly useless, given it is obvious that charging HAS stopped!

We are with Octopus Go and the Ohme app shows the following info this morning, but clearly charging stopped during the night and didn't restart. The charging light on the car was red and when I unlocked and removed the charger, then plugged it back in, it started to charge again.

There is no indication from the Ohme App that an issue occurred, so, no idea if this is an Audi issue, an App issue or an Ohme charger issue.

Any thoughts?

Paul.

Your first picture shows there to be a communication error with the car so I guess a wifi problem.

I had assumed "Vehicle communication error" related to the communication between the Charger and the Car, which I thought was done via the charging cable and not wifi!

This is the first charging issue we've had for a couple of months now and the house wifi hasn't changed and there's a strong signal at the charger.

Fair enough, but note there are three communication links involved:

[1] Car to Ohme EVSE. That is hard wired via the charging cable so I doubt that is faulty.

[2] Car to your phone application. Presumably that is via mobile or wifi, or a mixture of both.

[3] Phone application to EVSE. Again presumably that is via mobile or wifi, or a mixture of both.

That's why I suspected wifi.

For my own part I abandoned six EVSEs (also wrongly called chargers), partly because of wifi difficulties and partly because of inadequate software in the car, and returned to 3 pin plug in equipment with a delay timer.
