Keys locked inside

Featured Replies

Hello,

hoping someone can help! Whilst washing my 2010 S4, I’ve managed to lock both keys in the car (one on the driver seat and the other in the centre console), door was open but locked when I closed it. I’ve called recovery, but is there some magic way of getting into the car? All doors and boot locked! Is this an Audi thing?

Thank you and please be gentle, I’m fragile right now!

If there was an easy way to open a locked car thieves would have a field day, so your only option is brute force through one of the windows. Ensure you can buy new glass before using that universal key known as a hammer.

That’s unfortunate. If you’re with AA or another breakdown recovery they may be able to help. However that tends to be on older style cars, using a wedge on door lip. If it were me, I’d break the passenger door glass. The glass will splinter. The rear will be factory tinted I assume, so finding exact replacement could be tricky.

The B8 from memory has auto lock on exit set up in MMI in settings. You will probably want to change that down the line. It’s happened to me before, but had to get a friend to drive to retrieve the other key.

For new glass, the door card will need to come off.

If the door is opened on the inside w

With a handle that can be hooked thats the way in normally, with bent coat hanger wire and big rubber band on one end, sliding this between door frame and bodywork, but its tricky. Rac or AA should get you in and I'd wait for one such recovery expert. Old cars were easy to hook handles etc, but new ones not so . You can end up with damage that costs more than a lock smith. And don't be embarrassed, we've all done it. !

......and for owners of much older cars another trick is to tie a nylon cord to the bonnet release catch in engine bay and let it hang down so you can see it from underneath, ....then when your bonnet catch release wire breaks one day.... You can find the cord, pull and still open the bonnet. If you’ve hidden a spare key in Faraday box in engine bay, you also have a guaranteed route of access to it.
