Knocking noise

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone help I have a 2016 A4 sline And I’m getting a knocking sound when I m pulling away at juctions or when I’m driving at slow speeds It sounds like there is something under my car rattling but I’ve had it checked out and can’t find anything Anyone got any ideas Steve

Hi Steve, 2016 A4 is B9 platform, not B5. Admin can you please move.

Any indication of history of this, mileage?

Could be anything, but if it’s been checked out, then assuming garage checked ARB links, front coil springs, upper and lower arms. Upper arms can be tested in situ. Raise car and hold road wheel at 12 and 6 o’clock. Watch the strut where the arms and rubber bushes join for any movement there. Lower bushes (are hydra bushes), can only tell with pry bar. Lemforder are OE. ARB bushes are relatively inexpensive. Meyle HD or Lemforder. Replace in pairs.

Early B9 A4s (prior to 2017) suffered chassis creak or knock. More details here as there was a TPI issued. https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a4-b9-platform-discussion-212/creaking-noise-due-faulty-body-panel-lemon-2952951/page9/

I have a similar issue with my 2016 A4 Sport - a knocking noise when pulling away in first gear. It started about 4 months ago and can sometimes be quite persistent. The car went into the garage on Friday and although two technicians could both replicate the noise, they have been unable so far to locate the source. They have ruled out suspension or steering issues. They did find a corroded lower suspension cup which I have asked them to replace, but that is unrelated to this issue.

If you do find the cause, please let me know!
