Seatbelt Presenter Glitch/Software Bug

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. I own a 2020 A5 coupe. My seatbelt extender is stuck on the extended position.

Here's a walkthrough of what happened: I unlocked the car, got in and closed the door. The seatbelt was presented/extended towards me as normal after closing the door, however I did not put it on. I pressed the start button without the brake applied, so the engine didn’t start. Then went in the car settings on MMI and set windows to open with unlock button. I then tried holding unlock button on key fob to test it out, doing this while ignition/infotainment/virtual cockpit was still on and sat inside. After this didn’t work, I put my belt on and started the car, noticing the seatbelt presenter didn’t go back when I buckled in.

I've gently pushed it back in - making sure not to use much force at all. Passenger side works fine, driver side doesn’t, despite waiting a few hours and trying again. The presenter/extender/butler motor will not make any attempt to extend itself forward.

I can only assume this is some software bug - if anyone has any tips to fix this then please let me know!

Please also note that I did not immediately push it back into it's housing, rather a day later when I was certain it would not retract by itself.

Almost exactly 24h later - it works! I drove from work to the gym, didn’t work.

Got out of the car at the gym. Messed up the parking so got back in, and what do you know the seatbelt butler began to buttle!
