I have just acquired my Audi A3 sport, what happens every time pulling away, the central locking will click in and out and the radio will flick on and off, radio will also switch off sometimes when braking. Any ideas?

Hi Perry...welcome to the Forum!

Definitely going to state the obvious here but I would say you have a loose/poor electrical connection somewhere in the system.

I would start by checking the fuses and make sure they are secure in the fusebox and remove/replace the ones relating to the central locking and radio.

Let us know how you get on with it

when i bought the car few weeks ago it was doing it and the owner says it has always done that. Now i had a system put in at some point alll the wires on back of the radio itself was removed and replaced, so i dont think its a connection from the radio.

Hello Perry,

Not sure I'm understanding this, but am I right in thinking someone, or youself have disturbed the original radio and its connections. If so, I would not agree with your thinking that it cannot be anything to do with that because it has new connections.

Crimp connections (if that is what you have) are a real pain unless done properly with the correct crimping tool- and they very often aren't. If these connections have been fiddled with behind the radio and then the radio refitted, it's quite possible that the movement of the wires when fitting it back in, has stressed a connection and that MAY be where your problem lies.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Thanks for that Gareth, i certainly dont think the person i bought the car from had tampered with the radio, and he had said that was happening for a while. but yes i had to remove it when fitting system in....radio even cuts out sometimes sudden breaking.

I would take it to an auto electrician.

will probably have to do that....very annoying the radio cutting in and out !!

Shocking!!!! Think i may have electrical probs with main electrical system, now front windows intermittently when closing will automatically drop back open about a quarter. Its rare but it happens with both front windows.

This car really is doing its best to alert you to the fact that something is wrong and it should be looked at - just like a noise- it will get worse if left unattended to.

I think Bengi's advise is sound, and a visit to a reputable auto electrician is needed. Or do you have a good independent within travelling distance?

Not sure if these have a body control unit which controls most non engine- management (ECU) functions. This might, again just might, be at fault. Specialist inspection is the order of the day I think.

Good luck with sorting it.

Gareth.
