dEF on dash!

Hi guys... the a3 we got as a gap fill has suddenly thrown up dEF on the dash board. Everything works fine but the milage has zero'd and isn't gaining miles as we drive!

Previous owner has put led sidelights in and I noticed the other day that they have started to flicker! Could this be linked or is it just the dash is buggered? Any options as to repair or is it a throw away and fork out for a replacement?
