A6 Allroad suspension issues

Featured Replies

Hello, I am just looking for some advice regarding my allroad, we have been having some problems with the suspension (I assume? Not very clued up on cars) where it keeps dropping to below level 1 every few days. We have taken it to the garage twice but the computer isn't showing any problems and when the mechanic resets it, the car goes up to level one by itself and then it works fine for a few days until ot happens again. The mechanics have said that it can't be a leak or a problem with the air thingies (again, so sorry for my lack of knowledge!) that make the allroads go up because if there was then it wouldn't go back up to level 1 after reset. We can also go up to levels 2, 3 and 4 without issue after reset but after a few days we go to the car to find the front has dropped to below level 1 again. Any advice is greatly appreciated because as a busy mum to a toddler I need to be able to rely on my car! Thanks

Note: It usually drops down further than this

Hello Melissa,

Others more knowledgable on the actual models and specifications will no doubt clarify, but can I take it this has air suspension? If so, my first port of call (noting the vehicle's age) would be the compressor - a small and hard working component for what it has to do. Air suspension compressors are notorious on other marques for wearing out their piston rings and although the system copes, it doesn't have the necessary reserve. Some will point to a new compressor at "oh dear" prices, but these are generally repairable - I can give you a contact fo the parts if I'm barking up the right tree.

If the compressor is serviceable then it could be the individual suspension unit, which might be a main dealer  part only. Some homework will be necessary, if our Cardiffians pockets are to be respected!

Ignore if not air suspension! If it is, then let us know and we might be able to help further.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Melissa

Sorry to hear about what's happening, All I can think of is a compressor issue, but that's all I can say for this issue, Hopefully someone will come along soon to help out more!

Regards

Bradley
