Hi All

My name is steve I am a chemist live in South Africa and drive Audi from 2004

I am new in this forum and I would like to ask the more experienced member few questions or opinions about the Audi Q5 which I have bought second hand in December 2016 this vehicles is a 2.0 lts TDI form 2010 and had already done 120000 kms

I had a bad experience with my previous Audi 4 station wagon 2.0 tdi 2005 model when the engine head broke after 200000 kms

I bought then the Q 5  which seems ok but I feel some how uncertain if it could do the same thing or been better in quality and reliability

what I would like to ask is this

 1-Is the Q 5 2010 better or improved quality than 2.0TDI Audi from 2005 ?

2-My Q 5 is already done 120000 kms how many more can I reasonably expect to do before I have to do serious repairs or decide to sell it ?

3- what is your general impression of this vehicle ?

Hi Steve...welcome to the Forum

Generally, the Q5 is a great car, I believe it has a few electrical gremlins but otherwise, the engine is strong enough but I would probably over-service it with quality oils and filters to ensure a long life and consistent performance.

To be fair, your A4 did well to get to 200k with only a head gasket failure or was it cambelt failure?

I am not sure if it was a failure or not the cambelt was replaced and also the water pump the car was in excellent conditions but may be for the heavy traffic conditions mixed with the fierce heat I had to replace water on regular basis

one more question

is the Audu Q5 a 4 wd?

Yes, the Q5 has the Quattro AWD system as standard

I was not very sure

Today while driviving the oil alarm came up and the display was telling me to refill the oil completely as it was on the minimum and needed to be topped up immediately

the strange thing is that I  had serviced my Q5 just 48 hours before

I have taken it to the service dealer for advice and they could not find any leak whatsoever they drain the oil and find it was all there but the sensor [situated near the bonnet lock] kept saying it was empty ??!!

the technician disconnected the sensor and in 2 days I must go back to replace this sensor

I hope is not going to be expensive

what do you advice me to do?

Does sound like an sensor issue, you can always buy one online and do it yourself if you're a handy man with car's if not then is this a main Audi dealer or specialist?

As Brad-B5 has stated...it shouldn't be either too expensive or too difficult to replace but the cost of it not working and running low on oil will be a vast amount more expensive.

Hi blackwolf. If you go on youtube and type q5 oil sensor it will tell you exactly where it is.
