Hi iv recently bought a 2008 A6 avant lemans sline Quattro I contacted an Audi specialist regarding the Haldex filter and gearbox oil to get replaced but was told my car doesn't have the haldex filter and gear box oil is a sealed unit anyone have any info on what I can get done,gear box is an auto and seems very smooth just wanting to keep it in good condition 

Not personally sure, but I would probably consult another Audi dealer or specialist as I cannot see it being a sealed unit without any sort of maintenance required...what if it leaks some oil?

Audi says its sealed for life. But what "life" means for audi no one knows 

Google . There are 1000s topics discussing this . Some say oil change works well, some had lost of issues after. Cost around £1k .

If you decide to do it make sure you use a garage who knows their stuff, using correct ATF oli as it can mess up your box

Mine did 119k , box runs like new. and i have resarched for last year . Still trying to decide...

they are a great company to deal with and they will give good advice. VAG policy seems to say Haldex and autogearboxes are sealed for life. Strange then that there are so many independent companies out there servicing them!! Lol.

be great if you would post up your results though as I have not yet dealer with any haldex issue, good or bad!

 

Hi thanks for the replys I contacted 4 separate audi specialists and they all confirmed the trip tonic gear box is a sealed unit and should only be changed if there is a problem also my car doesn't have a haldex on it as it's constant 4 wheel drive thanks again for the replys

You are right they do say that. But there are a couple things to consider. (In my option they are wrong BTW, but only think this through a bad experience)

I have the 6 speed tiptronic box in the T5. I have my oil changed once a year because I do 40-50k per annum. These boxes rely totally on the condition of the fluid used inside it. There are several clutch plates inside and these do deteriorate and the only place for the material released is to stay in suspension in the fluid or be filtered if the vehicle has a filter. Therefore over time effecting the filters performance. I had to have my T5 box overhauled unfortunately, £2,700 plus £400 for a new cooler. Ouch. And To keep up,the 3 year warranty I had to have the oil changed every 25,000 miles. Long story short I have a different van now but still get the oil changed once a year for my own peace of mind.

Change needs to be done using high presure pump to flash the system  othervise all the metal shavings and other crap will drop to the bottom of the pan . 

Ive been looking in to this for over a year and still cant decide . If my box wasnt working well i would probably change oli already. Probably what matters most is good garage and correct oil !

You are so right about a good garage. I assume that the main reason the main dealers say 'sealed for life' is because of the issues that can so easily arise after even a basic oil change with these very complex and expensive slush boxes.

i would never recommend a dealer (once the vehicle is out of warranty period of course) and only use a gearbox company that specialises in auto boxes. That's why I give the OP Mackies number. They are the best in Scotland (a 4 hour drive for me!,) and must be in the top 3 in the U.K. They give the longest warranty for their work that I know of.
